Journey
Shandesh, born Rakgoale Nelly Machethe on 25 January 2004 in Ga-Modjadji, Mohlabaneng, Limpopo Province, South Africa, is a fast-rising singer and one of the leading voices in the emerging lekompo music genre. She grew up in Solomondale, where she discovered her passion for music early in life, performing in school and church choirs as a child. Her dedication to music deepened when she began recording professionally in 2018 while still in school, releasing her debut track 'Lomolo.'
Shandesh’s music melds traditional South African rhythms with contemporary dance styles, drawing from influences like Amapiano and bolo house to shape the energetic lekompo sound. In 2025, she gained national attention with the chart-topping track Sdudla or Slender, produced with Mvzzle, which peaked at number 2 on South African charts and earned platinum status. Other successful releases, such as Di Chopper and Ga Mmapula, further established her presence in the vibrant South African music industry.
She has collaborated with notable artists, including King Monada, Shebeshxt, and Wave Ryder, using her music to connect with fans across the country. Shandesh is also planning to launch the Rakgoale Foundation, a nonprofit aimed at providing food, school supplies, and sanitary products to underprivileged children in her community. With her growing influence and distinctive sound, she is widely seen as a key figure in bringing lekompo music to a broader audience.
