Shaa, whose real name is Sarah Kaisi, was born on 7 November 1985 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Raised in a family that supported artistic expression, she developed an early passion for music and performance. She officially entered the industry in 2004 as a member of the group Wakilisha, where songs like Hoi introduced her to a broader audience.
After moving to Washington, D.C. to pursue art studies, Shaa continued nurturing her musical ambitions. In 2008, she signed with MJ Records and released her first solo album, Zamu Yangu. The album marked a turning point in her career, generating popular singles and earning nominations at the Tanzania Music Awards and MTV Base Awards.
Shaa is recognized for combining Bongo Flava, Afro-pop, Zouk, and traditional East African rhythms into a dance-oriented sound. Her hit Sugua Gaga (Chakacha) helped spotlight coastal dance influences and broadened her reach across the continent. Beyond music, she has participated in television projects and live events, strengthening her presence in East African entertainment.
With a career spanning two decades, Shaa remains a respected and influential figure in Tanzanian music, known for her versatility and commitment to celebrating regional sounds.
