Journey
Mpho “Scotts” Lebajoa, professionally known as Scotts Maphuma, is a South African amapiano singer, songwriter, and producer born on 9 October 1995 in Daveyton, Gauteng. Raised in Daveyton and later Etwatwa, he grew up surrounded by township culture that shaped his musical direction. Before music took over, he was actively involved in football during his youth. While little is publicly documented about his formal education, his artistic foundation was built through exposure to Gauteng’s vibrant street and club music culture. His sound draws from amapiano and electronic dance elements, layered with African influences, and he is widely recognized for his energetic presence and the popular catchphrase “bathini bona.”
He began performing locally around 2017, hosting informal jam sessions and steadily refining his craft. In 2018, his appearance on Dlala Regal’s “Umshini” brought early attention after the song gained traction on television and social media. This exposure helped him build momentum, leading to a steady run of releases and a working relationship with Gipa Entertainment.
His career reached a turning point in 2022 with the release of his debut album Saka, which positioned him as a rising name within amapiano. Wider mainstream recognition followed through collaborations, most notably “Yebo Lapho (Gogo)” with Felo Le Tee and Thabza Tee in 2024, which became a major hit and achieved multi-platinum status. He also featured on “Wishi Wishi,” appearing alongside Young Stunna on a project led by Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, and Vigro Deep, further boosting his visibility.
In late 2024, Scotts Maphuma expanded his catalogue with the EP PIATO (A Different Chapter), which explored festive themes while leaning into kwaito-inspired ideas. That same year, he released the Umswenko EP with Mellow & Sleazy and Xduppy, and followed up with singles like “Mfanakithi.” His growing body of work includes collaborations with artists such as Lee McKrazy, DJ Jaivane, Busta 929, and Young Stunna.
His success has translated into industry recognition, including multiple nominations at the 2025 Metro FM Music Awards. Despite his rising profile, he maintains a reserved personal life, openly expressing discomfort with sudden fame. He has been linked publicly to content creator Senamile Mhlongo and remains active on social media, where his dance clips and performances continue to circulate widely. Scotts Maphuma has performed across South Africa and internationally, including shows in the United Kingdom, earning a reputation for lively, crowd-driven performances.
