Samthing Soweto, whose real name is Samkelo Lelethu Mdolomba, is a South African singer, songwriter, and producer born in Soweto, Johannesburg, on 21 January 1988. He developed an interest in music while growing up and later became one of the founding members of the acclaimed music group The Soil. The group became popular for combining traditional African sounds with modern a cappella and soul influences, helping him gain attention in the South African music industry.
After leaving The Soil, Samthing Soweto built a successful solo career that blended Afro-pop, soul, amapiano, and jazz-inspired music. His breakthrough moment came through his feature on Sun-El Musician’s hit song “Akanamali,” which became one of South Africa’s biggest songs of 2017. He became popular with songs such as “Akulaleki,” “AmaDM,” “Amagents,” and “Love You Tonight,” while his album Isphithiphithi strengthened his reputation as one of South Africa’s most original and talented musicians.
