Rowlene Nicole Bosman, hailing from Elsies River in Cape Town, is a South African singer-songwriter whose work has earned multi-platinum recognition and positioned her among the country’s defining R&B and Afro-pop talents. Growing up in a musically rich home filled with gospel classics and 80s and 90s records, she was heavily influenced by her father, a DJ with an expansive taste in sound. His record selections became her early classroom, shaping her ear and artistic direction. That foundation led her to participate in school and church choirs, where her vocal ability and confidence began to take form.
Despite her talent, her path to music was not direct. She initially studied dentistry at the University of the Western Cape, becoming the first in her family to attend university, before making the difficult decision to drop out to pursue music. She later formalised her skills by studying music production and sound engineering at Cape Audio College.
Her professional breakthrough came in 2015 with the single "Imposter", but she gained national acclaim through her long-standing creative partnership with Nasty C. Their collaborations on "Phases" (2016) and the 5x platinum hit "SMA" (2018) solidified her status in the industry. As the first artist signed to Nasty C’s Tall Racks Records, she released her critically acclaimed debut studio album, 11:11, in 2020, which earned a SAMA nomination for Best Pop Album.
Rowlene’s international profile grew significantly when her music was featured in the Netflix series Blood & Water. Known for her "genre-fluid" sound, she has since released the EPs Frequency (2022) and Moments After (2025), collaborating with African stars like WurlD and Oxlade. Now based between Johannesburg and London, she continues to release new music, including recent 2025 singles like "Breakaway" and "Touch Me".
