Robot Boii was born Mzwakhe Mbuli Jr. in Pimville, Soweto, South Africa, into a creative household. His father, Mzwakhe Mbuli Sr., is a celebrated poet and musician known as “The People’s Poet,” whose work inspired Robot Boii from a young age. Soweto's environment immersed him in music, dance, and performance, shaping his artistic vision. During high school, he joined a dance crew called “Lyrical Sneakers,” where he developed his distinctive movement style. He later studied graphic design at Midrand Graphic Institute, acquiring skills in editing and photography that complemented his creative pursuits.
Robot Boii began gaining national attention in the early 2020s through dance and media appearances, most notably as the host of Channel O’s Lockdown House Party, a virtual show that showcased his charisma and performance skills. Transitioning into music, he released breakout singles such as “Salary Salary”, “Uxolo”, and “Mwagia Ndani”, which amassed significant streaming numbers and sparked viral dance challenges.
In 2023, he released his first full project, Mafela Ndleleni, followed by collaborations with artists such as Sje Konka on WOITO and Big Xhosa on Robot. He has received several accolades for his work, such as the 2023 Trace Africa Award for Best Dancer in Africa and the 2024 Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Award (YOBA) for Top Personality & Influencer.
Robot Boii’s influence extends beyond music; he has appeared in commercials for Coca-Cola and Wimpy, hosted radio shows on YFM, and performed on national television. His discography reflects a fusion of Amapiano, urban, and hip-hop sounds, grounded in South African culture. Robot Boii continues to release music, tour, and expand his creative footprint, solidifying his place as one of South Africa’s most dynamic entertainers.
