Robert Chindamba Banda, stage name Roberto, is a Zambian singer, songwriter, and producer widely regarded as one of the country’s most successful Afro-pop and R&B crossover artists. He began his career in music production and songwriting before transitioning into a full-time vocalist, developing a polished sound that blends Afro-pop, R&B, dancehall, and contemporary African influences.
His breakthrough came with the 2015 hit “Amarulah,” which became a continental success and earned him major recognition across Southern Africa. He followed it with a string of popular singles, including “Vitamin U,” “Into You,” “Te Amo,” “My Baby” (feat. Harmonize), “Contolola” (feat. Patoranking), and “Tudigida” (feat. Eddy Kenzo), strengthening his reputation as a consistent hitmaker and collaborator.
Roberto has released several studio albums: "Roberto" (2007), "Akasuba" (2009), "My Name Is…" (2012), "Amarulah" (2015), "Superstar" (2017), and "Born to Win" (2024), along with the EP "Journey To The East" (2021). These releases showcase his evolution from local R&B roots to a more global Afro-fusion sound.
His success has also been reflected in multiple awards and nominations. He won Song of the Year at the Zambia Music Awards (2016), Pan-African Artist of the Year at the Namibia Annual Music Awards (2016), and several HiPipo Music Awards, including Best Song in Southern Africa (2018) and Best RnB Maestro (Africa) (2019). He has also received AFRIMMA nominations and other continental recognition, establishing him as one of Zambia’s most awarded contemporary artists.
