Rico Amaj whose real name doubles as his stage name is an Ivorian R&B, Afropop, and urban artist, songwriter, and composer. He first captured mainstream attention in 2008 during the highly publicized debut season of the pan-African music talent show Star Africa, where his impressive vocal range and smooth stage presence propelled him to a third-place finish.
Amaj translated this competitive success into a professional recording career, launching his ambitious debut solo album, “Changed,” in 2009. The debut was successful across the Ivorian music industry by helping him secure international guest features, including a track with American hip-hop heavyweight Fat Joe and French-Antillean Zouk singer Medhy Custos. He followed this up in 2011 with his second studio album, “Feel It,” which further solidified his standing as a versatile melodic artist.
As the West African music industry shifted toward electronic club beats and hard-hitting rap, Amaj seamlessly adapted. He delivered a string of highly successful urban anthems, including "Amélina," "Gnamien," and "20/20." His status as a preferred collaborative force is highlighted by his high-octane 2020 single "Commandant," which features top-tier Ivorian rapper Didi B, as well as multiple collaborative tracks on Gabonese diva Shan'L’s Eklektik 2.0 project. By consistently dropping fresh music including his single "Dans Ma Barque" Amaj continues to prove his longevity as an enduring voice in Francophone music.
