Rahsaan Patterson is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and actor known for his work in contemporary R&B, neo-soul, funk, and independent soul music. Born on January 11, 1974, in New York City, Patterson entered the entertainment industry at an early age after appearing in a school talent competition. His performance led to his selection for the television series 'Kids Incorporated,' where he performed from 1984 to 1987 alongside future artists and entertainers including Fergie, Mario Lopez, Martika, and Shanice. The program provided Patterson with early experience in vocal performance, choreography, stage production, and ensemble entertainment.
After leaving television, Patterson focused on music as a session vocalist and songwriter. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he worked with several recording artists, including Martika, before gaining industry recognition for his songwriting contributions. His credits include Brandy’s hit single “Baby” and Tevin Campbell’s “Back to the World,” both of which strengthened his profile within the R&B industry.
Patterson released his debut studio album, "Rahsaan Patterson," in 1997 under MCA Records. The project combined elements of soul, jazz, funk, and contemporary R&B, introducing a vocal style recognized for melodic control and layered harmonies. Singles, including “Stop By” and “Where You Are,” received support from urban radio stations, helping grow his international audience. His second album, "Love in Stereo," released in 1999, expanded his artistic direction through more experimental production and sophisticated songwriting. Although his commercial performance remained moderate compared to mainstream R&B acts of the period, Patterson established a strong following in the United States, Europe, and Japan.
Patterson continued to develop an independent recording career through releases including "After Hours" in 2004, "Wines & Spirits" in 2007, "Bleuphoria" in 2011, and "Heroes & Gods" in 2019. His catalog reflects influences from gospel, soul, jazz, electronic music, and funk while maintaining a distinct vocal identity. He has collaborated with artists including Ledisi, Faith Evans, Shanice, and Ida Corr.
