Fredinah Peyton, professionally known as Rah P, is a pioneering Tanzanian singer and rapper who stands as a foundational figure in the history of Bongo Flava. She was one of the first female artists to successfully navigate the male-dominated East African hip-hop landscape in the early 2000s; she was born in Tanzania's Shinyanga region.
Her upbringing provided her with a diverse cultural perspective that influenced her music. She received her primary education in Kenya and completed her secondary schooling (O-Level and A-Level) in Uganda before returning to Tanzania. This regional exposure helped her craft a style that resonated across borders. She officially broke into the mainstream in 2003 following a high-energy performance at the Butiama Club in Shinyanga, where she shared the stage with stars like Mr. Nice.
Rah P primarily performs in Swahili, masterfully blending it with English and urban Tanzanian slang (Lugha ya Mitaani). American hip-hop royalty heavily inspired her lyrical delivery, such as MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, and Lil' Kim. She is most famous for her timeless hit "Hayakuhusu", a track that remains a classic of the era. Her talent led to major collaborations with Bongo Flava legends, most notably featuring on Jay Moe's hit "Mwingine."
