South African vocalist Putuma Tiso, known professionally as Pu2ma, began her career after moving from Gqeberha to Johannesburg in 2001. Initially rooted in gospel music, she achieved her breakthrough in the Afro-jazz and Afro-soul genres when she signed with Native Rhythms in 2010 and released her critically acclaimed self-titled debut album, Putuma. This period established her reputation for sophisticated fusion, strong vocal control, and led to collaborations with esteemed artists like Hugh Masekela. Around 2014, Pu2ma made a significant, faith-based career pivot, transitioning from secular music to focus entirely on gospel. Following a brief hiatus, she launched her independent label, Putuma Productions, where she released award-winning albums such as Jesu Dwala (2016) and Back To The Journey Of Grace (Live) (2017), both of which earned her Best Female Artist accolades at major gospel awards, solidifying her status as a commanding voice in the South African Christian music community.
