Pitbull, born Armando Christian Pérez in Miami, Florida, is an American rapper, songwriter, singer, producer, and actor whose career has carried the musical identity of South Florida into international popular culture. Born to Cuban parents, Pérez grew up in Miami and developed an artistic foundation shaped by Cuban heritage, hip-hop and the multicultural character of his hometown.
Pitbull began attracting attention in Miami's hip-hop community before making a wider impression through his appearance on Lil Jon's "Kings of Crunk" in 2002. He subsequently contributed to the "2 Fast 2 Furious" soundtrack with “Oye” and signed with TVT Records. His debut studio album, "M.I.A.M.I." (2004), introduced him as a bilingual rapper with strong Latin and Southern hip-hop influences. He followed with "El Mariel" (2006) and "The Boatlift" (2007), steadily expanding his audience through recordings and collaborations.
The decisive shift in his career came with his fourth studio album, "Pitbull Starring in Rebelution," released in 2009. Its singles “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” and “Hotel Room Service” reached No. 2 and No. 8, respectively, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, establishing Pitbull as a major mainstream artist.
His international profile grew further through collaborations with artists including Ne-Yo, Afrojack, Nayer, Christina Aguilera and Kesha. “Give Me Everything” became his first U.S. Billboard Hot 100 No. 1, while “Feel This Moment” and “Timber” reinforced his position across pop and dance markets.
Recognition followed on both sides of the music industry. In 2013, “Echa Pa’llá (Manos Pa’rriba)” featuring Papayo won the Latin Grammy for Best Urban Performance. In 2016, his Spanish-language album "Dale" earned the Grammy for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album.
Beyond music, Pitbull has pursued acting and entrepreneurial ventures, appearing in projects including "Epic," "UglyDolls" and "Gotti." His career ultimately extends from Miami rap and Latin music into global entertainment, where his Cuban-American identity, multilingual artistry and international collaborations have remained central to his public persona.
