Pius Mayanja, stage name Pallaso, born in Kawempe, Kampala, Uganda, is a celebrated recording artist, songwriter, producer, and videographer. He is widely recognized as one of East Africa’s most influential contemporary musicians, known for his versatility across Afrobeats, dancehall, hip hop, R&B, and Afropop.
He grew up in a musically influential family as the younger brother of renowned Ugandan artists Jose Chameleone, Weasel, and the late AK47 Mayanja. Pallaso began his music career in 2000 under the Leone Island Music group, initially performing under the stage name “Lizard,” before rebranding to Pallaso to establish his independent identity.
In 2004, he relocated to the United States, where he spent nearly a decade pursuing both life and music experiences, including collaborations such as the project *Change* with rapper The Mess. He returned to Uganda in 2014 following growing success and renewed interest in his music career.
Upon his return, Pallaso released breakthrough hits such as "Amaaso," which positioned him strongly in the East African music industry. He later formed Team Good Music, through which he has continued to release influential music and collaborate with top African artists.
His notable works include songs such as "Twatoba" (featuring Davido), "Malamu," "Mpa Love," and "Bega Bega." Pallaso has also received several awards and nominations, including HiPipo and Zzina Awards, recognising his contribution to Ugandan music.
Beyond music, he is known for his entrepreneurial drive, resilience, and influence in shaping Uganda’s modern urban sound, often referred to as the “King of the East” by fans.
