Born Olwethu Nqobile Mbotho in 1997, a native of South Africa. He was raised in the township of Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, an environment that serves as the primary muse for his storytelling. Operating within the Hip-Hop and Trap genres, OwToo’s sound is characterized by a seamless blend of aggressive rhythmic flows and soulful melodies. His upbringing in the vibrant but challenging streets of Umlazi influenced his career direction, leading him to pivot from English-centric "type raps" to a more culturally resonant style performed in Zulu.
OwToo’s major achievements include his breakthrough during the KZN Lockdown Cyphers, where he was hailed as one of the country's elite lyricists. While he remains an independent powerhouse, his recognition stems from his viral freestyle impact and high-profile collaborations with industry giants like Zakwe and Dr Peppa. His discography is highlighted by the critically acclaimed 2022 EP "What Happened" and seminal singles such as "Angeke Balunge" and "Old Boy."
