Veronique de Lange, born Nicole de Lange in September 1987 and also known as Nicky de Lange, is a South African singer who gained national attention after placing 3rd in Idols South Africa Season 3 in 2005, broadcast on M-Net. She trained at Phillip Kotze Sing Studio in Bloemfontein before entering the competition and reached the Top 12 finalists.
During Idols SA, she performed a wide range of songs across multiple live rounds, including “Foolish Games,” “Unchained Melody,” “Since You’ve Been Gone,” “Try,” “Crush,” “Searchin’ My Soul,” “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “My Immortal,” “Just a Little,” “Underneath Your Clothes,” “Brass in Pocket,” “Small Room,” and “How Do I Live.” Her run on the show established her as one of the more consistent vocal performers of the season.
Following the competition, she teamed up with fellow finalists Kesha Charlton-Perkins and Deidre Visser in 2006 to form the girl group NKD. The group released the single “I Want Your Love,” which was used as a SuperSport theme track, followed by their debut album What’s That Noise in October 2006. Their video release “What I Believe” appeared on YouTube and contributed to their early visibility.
NKD performed widely across South Africa and supported international acts such as Westlife, Ronan Keating, Michael Learns to Rock, Michael Bolton, Shane Ward, and Johnny Clegg. The group won the SA People Magazine Crystal Award for Best Newcomer in 2007 and received nominations for the South African Music Awards and YOU Spectacular awards.
In 2009, Nicky left NKD and began working as a freelance vocalist. She collaborated with Bok van Blerk, including the duet “Anderkant die treinspoor,” and contributed backing vocals on his platinum-selling album My Kreet. She also toured internationally with him, performing in London, New Zealand, Dubai, and at major rugby-related events.
Her career extended into television and live performance work, including appearances on programs such as Egoli, 7de Laan, Binnelanders, Noot vir Noot, YO-TV, Dis hoe dit is met Steve, and Glitterati, as well as live performances at major televised events like Miss SA Teen and Idols SA Season 4 finale.
She later formed the cover and live performance outfit Nicky and the Niceguys in 2009, and in 2012 launched the Sunny Side Up Band project, touring widely across South Africa at festivals such as Harley Davidson Africa Bike Week, Thabazimbi Wildsfees, Karoo Lus Fees, and Hoedspruit Wildsfees, as well as venues including Sun City, Montecasino, and various corporate events.
As of later years, she has continued her career as a freelance performer, including work based in the United Arab Emirates, maintaining a focus on live music performance across different international venues.
