Nic Stevens is a South African Afrikaans singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer whose career moves between solo work and long-term family collaboration. Born Niccolaás Stephanus Snyman in Cape Town on 28 July 1975, he grew up in a household where music was part of daily life rather than a separate pursuit. That environment led him into formal studies at the University of Cape Town, where he completed a BMus degree, focusing mainly on piano but also working across other instruments like guitar, trumpet, and vocals.
His early career started as a solo Afrikaans pop artist in the early 2000s. Albums such as “Everybody” (2001), “Jonk Bly” (2004), and “Toeter Skoeter” (2007) introduced him to radio audiences. “Jonk Bly” in particular gained strong airplay and helped establish him as a consistent voice in Afrikaans pop during that period.
One of his most defining songs came in 2006 with “Dis Altyd Lente.” The track moved beyond standard radio rotation and became part of university and rugby culture, especially in Stellenbosch and Varsity Cup settings, where it is still associated with scoring moments and school spirit.
Alongside his solo work, Nic Stevens became a central figure in the family music group Broers, formed with his brothers Christo and Cobus Snyman. What started as individual musical paths eventually merged into a group identity built around shared songwriting, harmonised vocals, and live performance energy.
As Broers, the group released projects such as “Broers” (2006), “Huistoe” (2008), and “10 000 Myl” (2009), building a steady presence in Afrikaans pop and live band circuits. Their music often carried a mix of radio-friendly structure and performance-driven arrangements, with occasional movement into more faith-influenced material.
