Born in Praia in 1985, her early years moved between Santiago and Fogo, marked by emotional hardship and the early loss of her mother, a bar singer whose presence introduced her to local musical traditions. That experience of displacement and loss became a lasting foundation for how she later understood identity, community, and expression.
Her musical path became publicly visible in 2013 with the release of "Flor di Bila," a debut project that drew heavily from Fogo island traditions while presenting them in a refreshed, accessible form. The work positioned her within Cape Verde’s evolving traditional music space and brought her wider attention as an interpreter of cultural memory shaped by personal experience.
Outside recording and performance, Neuza’s work extends into organised social engagement. She created the Flor di Bila initiative, which began as a brand but developed into a support structure aimed at young women dealing with economic difficulty, early motherhood, and disrupted education. Through training opportunities and empowerment-focused programmes, the initiative works toward long-term financial independence for participants.
In addition, she established Fundação Izilda in honour of her late mother, focusing on children who have lost parental support, particularly due to illness.
