Journey
Tshiamiso Sekowe, professionally known as Myztro, is a South African DJ, record producer, composer, and songwriter from Soshanguve, Pretoria. Born into a Christian family, he is the younger brother of celebrated producer and DJ, Themba “DJ Maphorisa” Sekowe. Myztro studied at Reitumetse High School and later attended Tshwane University of Technology before fully dedicating himself to music.
He began playing piano and drums in church at an early age, experiences that shaped both his discipline and creative identity. Over time, he transitioned into DJing and production, carving out a path distinct from his brother’s influence. His rise came through chart-topping amapiano hits such as “66” (with Felo Le Tee), “Dipatje tsa Felo”, and “Emcimbini”. “66” went Multi-Platinum under RiSA, cementing his place as a breakthrough artist. Collaborations like “Tabela” with Focalistic and M.J. further expanded his profile.
Myztro’s sound is rooted in amapiano, enriched with Bacardi-inspired rhythms, reflecting his drive to push the genre forward. His efforts have earned recognition, including nominations at the All Africa Music Awards and the Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards. In 2023, he won the South African Music Award (SAMA) for Newcomer of the Year with 2.0 Nkwari.
