Journey
Murumba Pitch is a prominent South African Amapiano duo celebrated for their soulful vocals, melodic sensibility, and defining role in the evolution of the “three-step” subgenre. The group rose to prominence through the partnership of vocalist Innocent Khathutshelo Mangolo, known as Maeywon or Inno, and producer Emmanuel Mathye. After meeting in college in Venda, they turned a shared passion for music into one of the most distinctive sounds in contemporary South African dance culture. Although Murumba Pitch was originally formed in 2012, their defining era began around 2018–2019 when Emmanuel steered their sound toward Amapiano, a move that elevated them within the genre.
Their catalog includes the acclaimed project *Isidalo* and standout tracks such as “Hamba Juba,” “Wena Dali,” and “Uyeke.” They collaborated with leading figures, including DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Young Stunna, Soa Mattrix, Daliwonga, Mas Musiq, Kelvin Momo, and Spinall, expanding their reach across the Afro-dance spectrum. Widely credited with advancing a vocal-driven, emotive style of Amapiano, they helped spotlight Mpumalanga and Venda talent nationally.
On March 7, 2025, the duo announced a mutual decision to separate and pursue solo careers. Innocent released *Me To Me* later that year and prepared the *Oleander* EP for 2026, while Emmanuel continued developing projects rooted in the sound he helped shape, ensuring the Murumba Pitch legacy endures.
