Mr Real, legally known as Okafor Uchenna Victor, is a definitive voice in the Nigerian street-pop movement. Born on September 8, 1996, he hails from Anambra State but spent his formative years in Abule-Egba, Lagos. This upbringing immersed him deeply in Lagos street culture, allowing him to blend his Igbo heritage with fluent Yoruba lyrics, creating a unique musical identity.
Before finding mainstream fame, he spent nearly fifteen years working tirelessly in the underground music scene under the name "Real Self." He began learning music production in 2002 and even recorded a track with Terry G in 2006.
However, major commercial success eluded him until late 2017 when he released the monumental anthem, "Legbegbe." By cleverly syncing lyrics about various iPhone models with the infectious rhythms of South African Gqom beats, "Legbegbe" became the official soundtrack to Nigeria’s viral "Shaku Shaku" dance movement. The song's massive success caught international attention, leading Mr Real to sign a lucrative recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment Africa in April 2018.
Following his breakthrough, he became one of the most sought-after artists for high-energy collaborations. He teamed up with Afrobeat icon D'banj for the hit "Issa Banger" and was featured on Mr Eazi’s "Overload." He continued his streak of solo hits with tracks like "Baba Fela" and "Onigbese," proving his longevity beyond a single viral moment.
Through prestigious accolades, including winning the Hottest Single of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards, Mr Real transformed himself from a resilient underground producer into a celebrated pioneer of modern African street music.
