They call her the "Sweet Panther," a nickname that perfectly mirrors how Mounira Khalil Alio commands a stage—part soothing grace, part roaring vocal power. Born on September 19, 1979, in N'Djaména, Chad, her life opened amid the harsh echoes of a nation torn by civil conflict. Yet, rather than letting the chaos silence her, she transformed her raw, self-taught musical gift into a lifelong weapon for peace and cultural healing. Breaking into the music scene was no easy feat.
Mounira had to fiercely defy rigid religious conservatism and deep-seated social prejudices that often dismissed female performers as worthless. Originally trained as an administrative clerk, she boldly left her stable desk at the Ministry of Justice to pursue her sonic calling. Her life changed forever in 2007 when a jury led by Salif Keïta unanimously awarded her the prestigious Prix Découvertes RFI. This triumph launched her onto the global stage via the Lusafrica label, resulting in two masterpiece albums: the 2008 debut “Talou Lena,” and the 2012 follow-up “Chili Houritki.” Singing beautifully in Chadian
