Moonchild Sanelly, whose birth name is Sanelisiwe Twisha, was born on 20 November 1987 in Gqeberha, South Africa. She was raised in a household where artistic expression was encouraged, allowing her to explore music, dance, and performance from an early age. Her mother worked as a jazz vocalist, her brother became a hip-hop producer, and other family members participated in dance, creating an environment that nurtured her creativity.
As a young girl, she enjoyed writing poetry, performing at community events, singing in church, and creating dance routines. Her passion for the arts continued to grow throughout her school years, and she became involved in various creative activities that helped build her confidence as a performer.
In 2005, she moved to Durban to study fashion design at the Linea Fashion Design Academy. While pursuing her studies, she became active in the local poetry and music scene, gaining valuable experience that would later support her music career.
