Born and raised in a musical environment, Monique formalised her training at the University of Cape Town, earning a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies. Her exceptional talent was quickly recognized when she won the 2007 SAMRO Overseas Scholarship, a prize that allowed her to explore traditional Cuban music in Havana, further diversifying her rhythmic and melodic palette.
While she is a revered figure in the jazz community having performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and fronted numerous big bands Monique achieved global fame through her collaboration with the electronic powerhouse Goldfish. Her smooth, evocative vocals on tracks such as "Call Me" and "This Is How It Goes" became synonymous with the duo’s signature sound, bridging the gap between underground jazz and international dance charts.
