Mojalefa Thebe, popularly known as Mjojo, also referred to as Mjakes, is a South African singer, songwriter, record producer, sound engineer, and label executive from Dobsonville, Soweto. He is widely respected for his extensive contribution to South Africa’s contemporary music landscape, spanning kwaito, gospel, Afro-soul, and urban production styles.
He began his musical journey while studying Electrical Engineering, later joining a college group called 'Frenz,' which released music under Gallo Records, marking his entry into the professional music industry. After completing his studies, he fully committed to music production, working as a producer, songwriter, and engineer for numerous South African artists across multiple genres.
Mjojo played a key role in the award-winning gospel group 'Redeemed,' which earned a South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Urban Gospel Album and a Metro FM Award for Best Gospel. He also contributed to major kwaito and urban productions for artists such as Mzekezeke, Brown Dash, and Robbie Malinga, strengthening his reputation as a versatile studio professional.
As a producer, he co-created the acclaimed album "Phendula" by Zahara alongside Robbie Malinga, further showcasing his ability to bridge gospel, Afro-soul, and mainstream African pop.
Beyond studio work, he founded Hits House Records, through which he continues to develop, produce, and mentor artists. His career is defined by longevity, adaptability, and a consistent commitment to shaping South African music both creatively and structurally.
