Journey
Mike Pilot is a legendary South African guitar virtuoso, singer, and producer whose influence defined the country’s popular music for decades. Born in London and settling in South Africa in 1958, Pilot first found success with bands like Tidal Wave and Rising Sons before co-founding the internationally acclaimed rock group Stingray in 1978. As the lead guitarist and vocalist, he co-wrote the massive hit "Better the Devil You Know."
A master of the studio, Pilot became a household name as the primary arranger and producer for the iconic Springbok Hits series for eleven years. His technical brilliance was best displayed in his recreation of "Bohemian Rhapsody," where he meticulously recorded all the complex vocal harmonies himself. Beyond performing, he served as the musical director for major television shows like Sing Country and was the head vocal coach for the original Coca-Cola Popstars, mentoring groups like 101 and Jamali.
