Journey
Zimkhitha Silo, better known as Mia, is a South African R&B singer-songwriter from De Aar in the Northern Cape whose steady rise reflects both discipline and vision. Emerging from provincial stages to national platforms, she has positioned herself as part of a new generation of artists shaping contemporary South African R&B through emotionally grounded songwriting and a distinctly modern sound. Her profile rose significantly in June 2023 when Apple Music selected her as their “Up Next” artist in South Africa, spotlighting her as an emerging voice with global potential.
Her musical journey began in childhood, performing in talent shows from the age of seven. By 16, she had reached the Top 30 on SA Idols and won Best New Artist in her province. Driven to pursue music full-time, Mia relocated over 700 km to Johannesburg, cultivating a fanbase online that introduced her to audiences worldwide.
Mia’s music blends soulful R&B with contemporary South African rhythms, combining expressive singing, intricate storytelling, and Afro-infused production. Collaborations with Langa Mavuso, Kelvin Momo, Oscar Mbo, Citizen Deep, and Bandros have further expanded her reach.
In 2023, she released her debut EP "The Other Side," anchored by the single "What Is Love," which charted in the Top 40. She has performed at major events such as Good Morning and Homecoming Africa, sold out her solo show in collaboration with Strictly Soul, and opened for American artist Xavier Omar in 2024.
