Sandile Cedric Mfusi Jnr, popularly known as Masandi, is a South African singer, songwriter, and actor. Born and raised in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, he developed an early interest in performance, beginning at age seven through church singing, school talent shows, and playing trumpet in his school brass band. His early exposure to both music and performance arts later shaped his dual career in music and television.
He entered the South African music industry professionally in 2014 with his debut single “Bring It Back,” which gained industry attention and led to collaborations with established artists such as K.O on the follow-up track “One Time.” This early momentum helped position him within the broader hip-hop and R&B-influenced pop scene.
Masandi’s breakthrough period came after forming his own independent label in 2016 and releasing “Ngane Yabantu,” followed by the "Escalation" EP in 2017, which featured collaborations with Big Nuz, Gemini Major, Aewon Wolf, and others. These releases established him as a versatile vocalist able to move between Afro-pop, R&B, and urban crossover sounds.
In 2020, he signed a global deal with Warner Music South Africa, marking a major step in his commercial expansion. He later released the hit single “Amagate” in 2021, which reflected his evolving sound and thematic focus on celebration, resilience, and post-pandemic social life.
Alongside music, Masandi has built a parallel career as an actor, appearing in popular South African TV productions such as 'Isibaya,' 'The River,' 'Uzalo,' and 'The Black Door,' reinforcing his presence across both the entertainment and television industries.
