Journey
Martelize van Niekerk is a South African singer who gained national attention after competing on Idols South Africa Season 3 in 2005. Born around 1990 and raised in Kuils River in the Western Cape, she developed an early interest in singing through school activities and local performance spaces.
She auditioned for Idols SA Season 3 and progressed through the early stages into the live performance rounds, eventually reaching the Top 12 finalists. During the competition, she delivered a range of well-known covers including “Pretty Baby” by Vanessa Carlton, “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole, “The First Cut Is the Deepest” by Cat Stevens, and “All by Myself” by Celine Dion.
She advanced further into the contest and was later eliminated at the Top 8 stage. Her performances were noted for vocal clarity and ballad interpretation, although consistency was sometimes highlighted as a challenge during later rounds. After the show, she stepped back from mainstream visibility and remained active on a smaller performance scale.
