Christopher Comstock, known through his music as Marshmello, is an American electronic music producer and DJ whose distinctive helmet, melodic productions, and genre-crossing collaborations have made him one of the most recognizable figures in contemporary dance music.
Marshmello emerged in 2015 with “Find Me” before gaining wider attention with “Alone,” a breakthrough release that established his melodic electronic sound and distinctive vocal treatment. He subsequently developed the “Joytime” album series, releasing “Joytime,” “Joytime II,” and “Joytime III,” before taking a broader stylistic approach with “Shockwave” in 2021. Released through his Joytime Collective, “Shockwave” incorporated influences from trap, dubstep, Jersey Club, Eurodance, bass music, and pop-punk, demonstrating his willingness to move beyond a single electronic style.
His collaborations have connected electronic music with pop, hip-hop, rock, and country. Among his notable partners are Selena Gomez, Khalid, Bastille, Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Anne-Marie, Halsey, Juice WRLD, Lil Peep, Megan Thee Stallion, and Kane Brown. He has also worked with major electronic and bass artists, including Subtronics, DJ Sliink, Eptic, and TroyBoi.
Marshmello received his first Grammy nomination for “Shockwave,” which was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards. The Recording Academy lists him with one nomination and no Grammy wins.
His career also extends into gaming and digital entertainment. In 2019, he performed a virtual concert inside Fortnite, attracting more than 10 million concurrent players. He later became a playable Fortnite character, strengthening the connection between his musical identity and gaming culture.
Marshmello has also established himself as a live performer, citing appearances at Coachella in 2017 and Lollapalooza in 2021 among his career highlights. His work demonstrates how electronic music can connect with pop audiences, gaming communities, and international digital culture while maintaining a strong dance-music foundation.
