Mandojo, whose birth name was Joseph Francis Michael, was a celebrated Tanzanian singer and songwriter best known for his work in Bongo Flava. He rose to prominence in the early 2000s as part of the duo Mandojo & Domokaya, earning acclaim for hits such as Nikupe Nini, Dingi, Wanoknok (featuring Lady Jaydee), Niaje, and Taswira. His music combined storytelling, emotive lyrics, and distinctive guitar work, creating songs that connected deeply with audiences across Tanzania.
Born and raised in the Mara and Singida regions, Mandojo developed his passion for music early, singing in church choirs and nurturing his talents alongside small entrepreneurial pursuits. Throughout his career, Mandojo earned respect for his contributions to Bongo Flava and his role in shaping Tanzanian contemporary music. Tragically, on 11 August 2024, just days before his birthday, he passed away in Dodoma after being mistakenly accused of theft and attacked by a mob.
