Journey
Mad Ice, whose birth name is Ahmed Mohamed Kakoyi, was born on 8 October 1980 in Masaka, Uganda. He later spent a significant part of his upbringing in Tanzania, where his interest in music developed and his professional journey began. In the late 1990s, he started performing as a master of ceremonies and singer, gradually establishing himself within the East African music scene.
In 2003, Mad Ice released his debut studio album Baby Gal. The title track received strong airplay and helped him gain recognition beyond Tanzania and Uganda. His style blends raggamuffin, Afro-pop, Afro-soul, world music, and Bongo Flava elements, and he performs in multiple languages including Swahili, Luganda, and English.
In 2004, he signed with a Finnish record label and moved to Helsinki, Finland, expanding his reach to European audiences. While living in Europe, he continued releasing music such as Mad Ice (2005), Maneno (2007), and the Maisha EP. In addition to recording and touring, he has worked to connect African and Nordic music communities through performances and cultural collaborations.
Mad Ice remains active as a performer and recording artist, known for blending African rhythms with international influences and maintaining a cross-cultural musical identity.
