Journey
Hailing from Jos, Nigeria, where he was born on October 4, 1981, Jude Lemfani Abaga, celebrated globally as M.I Abaga is a pioneering rap artist, record producer, and entertainment executive. He is universally recognized as a foundational pillar of African hip-hop, revered for transitioning the genre from an underground movement into a dominant commercial force across the continent.
Following his university education in America, Abaga returned home and immediately disrupted the local music scene with his viral 2006 single "Crowd Mentality." His groundbreaking 2008 first studio album, "Talk About It," shattered industry skepticism by proving that rap records could generate massive retail and radio success in West Africa. He further cemented his legendary status with highly acclaimed, conceptually rich follow-up projects such as "MI 2: The Movie" and "The Chairman."
Beyond his sharp penmanship and production skills, Abaga has left an indelible mark as a corporate music leader. During his four-year tenure steering the ship as the Chief Executive Officer of Chocolate City, he secured major global network channels and nurtured the careers of numerous Afrobeats and rap heavyweights. He later pivoted to full creative independence, launching his own imprint, Incredible Music, alongside TASCK, an innovative platform that connects corporate social responsibility with African creative talent.
An multi-award-winning artist with extensive international accolades, Abaga continues to expand his legacy. Today, he balances his musical endeavors with digital mentorship and civic leadership, serving as an advisor in Plateau State and remaining an essential voice at the crossroads of African entertainment and social change.
