Loyiso Bala is a premier South African singer, producer, and media executive, celebrated for his versatile tenor voice across R&B, Gospel, and Classical genres. Born in 1979 in Kariega, he was classically trained at the Drakensberg Boys Choir School and became the youngest conductor of the National Youth Choir at nineteen.
Bala’s solo career launched in the early 2000s with his triple-platinum debut Wine, Woman and Song (2003) and the follow-up Amplified (2005). He dominated the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), winning five trophies, including Best R&B Artist, Best Male, and Best Producer. His gospel transition with Love Complete and Power Love Sound earned further SAMAs for Best Faith Album. Iconic hits like “Musukukhala,” “Girl Without A Name,” and “Blow Your Mind” solidified his status as the "King of R&B." Beyond solo work, he performs with siblings Zwai and Phelo as the internationally acclaimed Bala Brothers.
His influence extends to high-profile performances for Nelson Mandela, Oprah Winfrey, and Elton John, and shared stages with Stevie Wonder and John Legend. Parallel to music, Bala has built a formidable media career. After serving as Channel Director for TBN Africa, he was appointed Business Manager for the SABC Eastern Cape Combo, overseeing major stations Umhlobo Wenene FM and Tru FM.
Academic excellence marks his later years; he earned an MBA from Henley Business School with the Henley UK Prize for distinction. A dedicated humanitarian, he served as a UNAIDS National Goodwill Ambassador. By 2026, Bala has returned to his musical roots, releasing singles “Do It Again” and “That RnB” ahead of a highly anticipated 2026 studio album.
