Lienka Coetzee is a South African singer, songwriter, and performer who first came into wider recognition as a founding member of ddisselblom, an Afrikaans band formed in Bloemfontein. Her vocal tone and interpretive style became a defining part of the group’s identity, which drew from folk traditions, rock elements, and contemporary Afrikaans songwriting. Together with Jaco Spies and Johrné van Huyssteen, she helped establish a catalogue that carried both narrative depth and accessible musical structure.
With Ddisselblom, Coetzee contributed to several well-received releases, including "Goud en Marog" (2004), "Donker Grond" (2007), and "Onskuld" (2009), alongside a greatest hits compilation. The group’s presence on the Afrikaans festival circuit led to recognition that included the GMT Award for Best Afrikaans Group and the Kanna Award for Best Contemporary Performance at the KKNK, reflecting their impact in live performance spaces.
Following her time with the band, she stepped into solo work, releasing a self-titled album and exploring more personal recording directions. Her collaborations include “What Love Does” with Ross Learmonth of Prime Circle, along with other featured appearances that highlight her range across different musical settings. She has also shared intimate recordings and interpretations of well-known songs such as “Falling Slowly” and “Yesterday” on digital platforms, offering a more stripped-back view of her artistry.
In 2021, she featured on Anton Goosen’s Groen Blomme-Projek, extending her involvement within Afrikaans collaborative projects. Her career continues to reflect consistency, expressive clarity, and a strong link to Afrikaans musical storytelling through both group and solo work.
