Lesego Patrick Reetseng, known as Lesego, is a South African Afro-pop and gospel-influenced singer whose work gained national attention in the mid-2000s through emotionally driven songwriting and a distinctive blend of spiritual and mainstream African popular music. Born and raised in the North West region of South Africa, he developed his musical identity within church-inspired performance spaces before transitioning into professional recording and commercial Afro-pop production. His early sound was shaped by collaborations with producers such as the Jaziel Brothers, who helped refine his studio direction and introduced him to wider radio audiences during his breakthrough years.
Reetseng rose to prominence in 2006 with the release of his debut studio album "My Music", a project that established him as a new voice in Afro-pop and gospel crossover music. The album achieved strong commercial reception, reportedly reaching gold status, and produced widely played tracks such as “Africa,” “Ke Tshepile Wena,” and other spiritually rooted songs that received consistent radio rotation. This early success positioned him among emerging South African artists, bridging gospel themes with contemporary Afro-soul production.
Following his debut era, he continued to build his catalogue with a sophomore release often referenced as "Soulsation" in 2009, which further expanded his Afro-pop and inspirational music style. However, his career trajectory was later affected by personal challenges and industry instability, leading to an extended break from the public eye during which he stepped away from consistent recording and performances.
After more than a decade of relative silence, Reetseng re-emerged in the 2020s with renewed creative direction and a modernized sound. The album includes tracks such as “Monateng,” “Ntshwarele,” “Gowa,” “Bengayazi,” “Nawe,” “Tsotsi,” and “Monghadi (Radio Edit),” which reflect both emotional storytelling and contemporary South African Afro-pop rhythms. "Mahlong" reaffirmed his presence in the industry, introducing him to a new generation of listeners through digital streaming platforms.
Beyond albums, Reetseng has maintained visibility through a steady stream of singles released during his later career phase.
