Journey
Lethabo Gaulana, professionally known as LeeArt, is a South African amapiano DJ and producer born around 1998 in Mabopane, north of Pretoria. From an early age, she displayed a passion for music, enrolling in a media diploma at Boston Media House, though she struggled to gain acceptance into other university programs. In 2019–2020, a lecturer introduced her to DJing through DJ 101 classes, and she quickly learned beat-matching and other essential skills during the COVID lockdown. Despite initial concerns from her Christian mother, LeeArt proved her ability by booking private parties and gradually earned her family’s support. Her stage name reflects her personal identity, combining “Lee” from Lethabo and “Art” to signify her creative vision.
LeeArt’s DJ career grew rapidly during the lockdown as she performed for home and virtual parties, often booked from Thursday to Sunday. By early 2022, she became resident DJ at Pretoria’s Something Sosha Lounge and performed at high-profile events including the Metro FM Cruise party and Pabi Cooper’s CooperFC amapiano showcase. Her live sets are known for soft, sing-along-friendly amapiano grooves that appeal to dancefloor audiences while highlighting her musical versatility.
Although she has not yet released a full EP or album, LeeArt has several singles that demonstrate her growing presence in the scene. Iphutha Lam (2024) features Tycoon, Zeenhle, Mpho Spizzy, and Tshepo Keyz, while Gone Girls (2025) includes ShaunMusiq, Zeenhle, and Nicole Elocin. Symphonic Prayer (2025), a collaboration with TNK MusiQ, Seun1401, and Hevdmvxter, further showcases her skill in producing layered, melodic tracks. She also appears on Nicole Elocin’s Nkosi’ngsize (2025) and contributed to Kabza De Small & DJ Maphorisa’s Women’s Month anthem Ungiphethe Kahle (2023), highlighting her commitment to collaboration and empowerment.
LeeArt has built a strong profile as a performer and media personality. She has hosted radio shows on UNISA Radio and Boston Media House Radio, and her live DJ sets continue to draw attention at festivals and club events. Managed by Lawk Communications, which also represents top amapiano artists, she is connected to the heart of the South African scene and benefits from mentorship by established producers like Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa.
While she has not yet won formal industry awards, media outlets such as Drum, News24, and Zkhiphani recognize her as a rising star. LeeArt maintains an active social media presence on Instagram (@lee_artsa), TikTok, and Facebook, promoting releases and engaging with fans while leveraging these platforms as creative tools. Her music is widely available on streaming services including Spotify, Apple Music, and Audiomack. LeeArt continues to grow as both an artist and a DJ, blending classic house influences with modern amapiano grooves to produce accessible, crowd-friendly music that showcases her creativity and rising influence in the South African electronic music spaces.
