Born Tumisang Kekana in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, Laud has emerged as a cornerstone of South Africa’s sophisticated "Private School Piano" movement. The church's rhythmic foundations rooted his journey into music, as he spent his youth as a drummer there. This early exposure to percussion and spiritual melody eventually led him to experiment with digital production, initially cutting his teeth on Deep House and Hip-Hop before the Amapiano explosion of 2020 redefined his career path.
People widely respect Laud for prioritizing "musicality" over generic club formulas. His sound is characterized by lush chords, jazz-influenced arrangements, and a deep, soulful atmosphere that resonates beyond the dancefloor. Unlike many producers who focus on ephemeral hits, Laud approaches his work with a documentarian’s heart. High-profile collaborations within the New Money Gang fueled his breakthrough stable, most notably with Visca and DJ Maphorisa. His ability to craft intricate, melodic soundscapes earned him the moniker of a "producer’s producer," attracting top-tier vocalists like Njelic, Sha Sha, and Masego.
His debut studio album, "Rearabetswe" (2023), was a love letter to his younger sister, while his 2025 sophomore project, "Melokuhle," was inspired by the profound themes of fatherhood and legacy. By integrating his native Sepedi heritage with contemporary electronic textures, he bridges the gap between traditional South African identity and global dance music.
