LastBornDiroba, whose real name is Lethabo Omolemo Tjale, comes from Ga-Rankuwa in Pretoria, an area where township culture and music are part of everyday life. He started DJing at the age of 12, playing part-time while still learning the foundations of music. By his mid-teens, curiosity turned into commitment, and around 2014 he began focusing seriously on producing his own records.
His music draws from amapiano at its core, but he freely pulls ideas from gqom, kwaito, house, jazz, and hip-hop. The result is a sound that feels rooted in the streets he grew up in while remaining flexible enough for clubs, festivals, and wider audiences.
In 2020, he released Introductory, his first full album, followed by a collaborative album with BlvckFolksMuziQ. Projects like Last Men Standing, Stance Music, and Underrated showed steady growth, with tracks such as “Zimbiri” earning attention through high-profile partnerships, including DJ Maphorisa.
Equally important is his work behind the scenes. LastBornDiroba regularly produces, arranges, and mixes his own records, and also works with other artists as an engineer. This control over his process has helped him build a clear identity.
Today, he is recognised as part of a new generation of South African producers pushing amapiano forward while staying grounded in township influence and collaboration.
