Phethego Makanyane, professionally known as L-Tech, is a South African rapper, songwriter, and performer best known as one half of the hip-hop duo TLT alongside Vusi “Troublle” Rantlha. Raised in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg, he developed an early passion for music through township rap battles, cassette recordings, and street performances. After meeting Rantlha in 2006, the pair eventually formed TLT Amazing in 2011, blending Kasi rap with indigenous South African influences.
Their breakthrough came through mentorship from Kwesta and a signing to RapLyf Records, where they gained recognition through collaborations such as “Mmino,” “Mbube,” and “Maizuzu.” Makanyane became known for combining melodic hooks, township storytelling, and contemporary hip-hop production. Beyond music, TLT performed at major South African events, including Fashion Week showcases and national tours.
Known for blending Kasi rap, melodic hooks, and township storytelling, L-Tech helped shape TLT’s signature sound, which fused traditional South African influences with modern hip-hop. The duo also experimented with mbube-inspired elements, broadening their musical direction beyond conventional rap.
Despite setbacks following the collapse of RapLyf Records, Makanyane and TLT continued to pursue independent success, remaining active in South Africa’s urban music scene. In later years, the duo expanded into event hosting and amapiano-influenced performances while maintaining their roots in hip-hop culture.
