Journey
Ngare Mukiria, known in the music world as Kiria, is a Nairobi-born singer-songwriter, guitarist, and storyteller who intricately fuses the rich sounds of reggae, jazz, blues, pop, soul, and funk. His journey into music began in the corridors of his secondary school, where he first played drums and engaged in dance. This foundation quickly blossomed into songwriting and guitar mastery, further refined through formal education at the esteemed Brookhouse School of Performing Arts and Sauti Academy, Nairobi's hub for musical excellence. Kiria's early career saw him performing with bands such as Yellow Light Machine and The Dagoz Nomads Blues Band, culminating in a successful tour of Tanzania in 2022. He later embraced a solo career where his individual style and narrative ability truly shone. The name 'Kiria'—meaning 'be silent' in Kikuyu—echoes his Buddhist upbringing, symbolizing his philosophical commitment to mindfulness and emotional clarity. His live performances are known for their immersive storytelling, where Kiria shares the personal stories behind each song, creating intimate and meaningful connections with his audiences. This personal touch not only highlights the spiritual and philosophical depth of his music but also cements his reputation as 'The Storyteller' among fans and industry peers alike.
