Journey
Khutso Steven Kgatla, professionally known as King Monada, is a South African singer, songwriter, and producer from Mokgolobotho village in Limpopo. He grew up in a musically inclined family and was influenced by relatives who played instruments such as guitars and drums. His schooling began at Sebone Primary and continued at Mafutasane High, though he left in Grade 8 to pursue music full-time.
Monada started performing in 2005 at local weddings, taverns, and community events around Tzaneen, gradually honing his craft. His national breakthrough came in 2016 with “Ska Bhora Moreki”, a hit that introduced his unique sound to wider audiences. In 2018, he solidified his place in South African music with “Malwedhe (Kea Idibala)”, a song that became a cultural phenomenon and was especially embraced within Limpopo and Khelobedu-speaking communities.
Known for singing in Khelobedu, a dialect of Northern Sotho, his style merges house, Afro-pop, and the locally rooted “Bolobedu house,” offering a blend of dance-floor appeal and cultural authenticity.
Over the years, he has received multiple accolades, including several FAME SA Awards in 2016, honors at the Limpopo Music Awards for Song of the Year and Best Khelobedu Single, as well as recognition at the 2020 DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards as Favorite Music Artist/Group.
Beyond music, Monada invests in his community through a recording studio in Mokgolobotho, dedicated to supporting and mentoring local rural talent.
