Khumbulani Mbatha, professionally known as Khumz, is a South African singer and songwriter from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Blending elements of R&B, hip-hop, trap soul, and contemporary African sounds, he emerged as one of Durban's promising young vocal talents during the mid-2010s.
Khumz developed an interest in music at a young age, beginning with singing and dancing before joining his church choir, where he refined his vocal abilities. Music became a more serious pursuit following the loss of both his parents, who had shared aspirations of becoming musicians themselves. During high school, he joined the rap collective Fresh Blood Music, gaining local recognition and performing at major events alongside artists such as AKA, Emtee, and Kwesta.
After the group's dissolution, Khumz pursued a solo career and worked with producer Sbu "Plan B" Gumede, whose production on the single "Boity" helped establish his presence in Durban's music scene. He subsequently signed with the independent label Wolfpack X, founded by Aewon Wolf and Sketchy Bongo.
As a member of Wolfpack X, Khumz gained significant exposure, including the opportunity to perform as part of the opening entertainment for Justin Bieber's South African dates during the Purpose World Tour. He also appeared on the Party With The Wolf Pack concert series and shared stages with prominent African artists, including Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, and Davido.
Throughout his career, Khumz has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Riky Rick, Vigro Deep, Blxckie, Locnville, Tellaman, and Mnqobi Yazo. His catalogue includes tracks such as "Rolling" featuring Aewon Wolf, "Lil Ghetto," "Shade," "Inhliziyo," "Amazing," and "Onisa" featuring Goldmax of Distruction Boyz. Several of his releases received support from South African radio stations, helping expand his audience beyond KwaZulu-Natal.
