Khaligraph Jones, born Brian Ouko Omollo on June 12, 1990, stands as one of Africa’s most formidable hip-hop icons. Raised in the Kayole estate of Nairobi, Kenya often referred to as "Kayole 1960"—his upbringing in a challenging urban environment deeply informed his gritty lyrical content and relentless work ethic. His stage name was chosen to reflect a desire for a permanent, "calligraphic" mark on the industry, while his persona, "The OG," emphasizes his veteran status in the game.
Jones first gained national attention by winning the Channel O Emcee Africa competition in 2009, a victory that showcased his technical speed and bilingual dexterity in English, Swahili, and Sheng. Over the next decade, he transformed from a battle rapper into a mainstream powerhouse. His debut studio album, Testimony 1990 (2018), and the subsequent Invisible Currency (2022), solidified his reputation for high-octane delivery and storytelling.
In April 2025, he released his third major studio project, The Book of Jones 1st Chapter. The album, featuring collaborations with heavyweights like Nyashinski and Nigeria’s Falz, was hailed as a masterful blend of old-school bravado and modern introspective themes.
