Kenny Bobien is an American gospel house vocalist, songwriter, producer, and pastor widely recognized as one of the defining voices in soulful and spiritual house music. Originating from New Jersey, he built a reputation through his distinctive falsetto vocals and his ability to merge gospel-inspired themes with deep house, garage, soul, and dance music. Over the course of his career, he became internationally known within the underground dance scene and earned the title “King of Gospel House Music.”
Bobien emerged prominently in 1994 through collaborations with influential producers and labels associated with the evolution of house music. His recordings for labels such as MAW Records, King Street Sounds, Soundmen on Wax, and Soulfuric Recordings established him as a major figure in gospel-infused dance music. Songs including “You Are My Friend,” “Brighter Days,” “Rise Above the Storm,” “Father,” and “Blessed” became staples within soulful house culture and helped shape the genre’s spiritual and uplifting identity.
Throughout his career, he worked alongside respected producers and DJs, including Louie Vega, Kerri Chandler, DJ Spen, Dennis Ferrer, Basement Boys, Teddy Douglas, Frankie Feliciano, and Masters At Work. His vocal style, rooted in gospel traditions, allowed him to move fluidly between church-inspired music and club-oriented productions, helping bridge spiritual messaging with dance culture.
Beyond his solo recordings, Bobien also gained recognition as a background and collaborative vocalist in R&B and dance music. He performed with internationally known artists such as Teddy Pendergrass, Celine Dion, Taylor Dayne, and Jennifer Holliday.
In addition to music, Kenny Bobien is known for his work in ministry and community leadership. While maintaining an active music career, he has also served as a pastor and motivational speaker, often emphasizing spirituality, faith, and personal upliftment in both his music and public engagements.
