Kanye West, legally known as Ye, is an American rapper, record producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, and fashion designer whose career has influenced the direction of hip-hop and popular music since the late 1990s. Born Kanye Omari West in Atlanta, Georgia, he was raised primarily in Chicago, Illinois, where his interest in music developed through production and songwriting.
West initially gained recognition as a producer associated with Roc-A-Fella Records, creating sample-driven beats for artists including Jay-Z, which helped establish his reputation before he secured an opportunity as a recording artist. His debut album, "The College Dropout," arrived in 2004 and combined personal narratives, social observations, humor, faith, and ambitious production.
