Judith Sephuma is a multi-award-winning South African singer, songwriter, and performer whose artistry has shaped Afro-Jazz for more than two decades. Often celebrated as the Queen of Afro-Jazz, she is known for her soothing, soulful voice and her ability to move effortlessly between jazz, Afro-soul, and gospel.
Her debut album, A Cry, A Smile, A Dance (2001), achieved triple-platinum success and established her as a household name. Since then, she has released several acclaimed projects, including The Experience: Live in Concert (platinum-certified), One Word (2015), and Power of Dreams (2019). Each record showcases her musical depth, emotional honesty, and unwavering connection to her roots.
Sephuma’s career has taken her from South African stages to international platforms, performing to sold-out audiences across Europe, the United States, and the United Kingdom. She has shared stages with legends such as Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, Jonathan Butler, Randy Crawford, Michael Bolton, and Kenny G, with whom she recorded the timeless hit “A Cry, A Smile, A Dance.”
Her artistry has also earned her invitations to perform at historic events, including President Thabo Mbeki’s inauguration in 1999 and a special performance for Nelson Mandela and Graça Machel.
