Jooma Mize, operating under the mononymous stage name Jooma, is a powerhouse South African vocalist and songwriter whose rich, emotive delivery has made him a respected figure across multiple musical landscapes. Born on September 6, 1991, in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) within the Eastern Cape, Mize spent years refining his vocal talents before stepping onto the national stage.
His defining career breakthrough came in 2020, when he competed on "Idols SA" Season 16. As the sole representative of the Eastern Cape in the advanced rounds, his soulful renditions of tracks like Masego’s "Lady Lady" and Leon Bridges’ "River" earned him massive public support and critical praise from the judges. Mize successfully climbed the ranks to become an official "Idols SA" Top 8 finalist, revered as one of the strongest male vocalists of the season.
Following his television success, Mize channeled his momentum directly into the South African dance and electronic scenes. He collaborated with the multi-award-winning Afro-house production duo Mr Luu & MSK to anchor the spiritually resonant, chant-heavy hit single "Somandla", a major release distributed by Sony Music Africa on the "House Gods" album. Displaying immense artistic fluidity, Mize later expanded into the Amapiano realm, joining forces with Lefa Mosea and Zain SA for the club track "Siwelele" on the 2022 project "Peculi'yano".
