Journey
Reverend Johan Els is a highly respected South African radio presenter, singer, and preacher, with a career in Christian media that has spanned over 35 years at Radio Pulpit and its sister station, Cape Pulpit. A stalwart of the broadcast industry, Els holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from the University of Stellenbosch and has become a prominent voice for Christian media in South Africa. His deep-rooted faith and ministry work are central to his professional life, having also served as a reverend at the Dutch Reformed "Klipkerk" in Bloemfontein for nearly 21 years.
In addition to his radio and preaching commitments, Els is a known singer, releasing music that resonates with his audience. One of his notable musical releases is the 1998 album Iets Anders (Afrikaans for "Something Different"). Beyond his musical endeavors, his radio career has been extensive. Before his long tenure at Radio Pulpit, he gained experience at other notable stations, including Jacaranda FM and OFM, and was a co-founder of the university radio station Radio Matie.
Els is the host of several popular radio programs, including Dagbreek ("Daybreak") and Something Els, which are broadcast on Radio Pulpit and Cape Pulpit. A book titled Dagbreek met God also compiled his daily devotions from Dagbreek. Known for his authentic and engaging on-air personality, Els is passionate about music, which is often featured on his programs, and about helping others. He and his wife, Louise, currently reside in Pringle Bay in the Western Cape, where he continues his ministry through radio and serves as a mentor to young preachers.
