Gunna Born Sergio Giavanni Kitchens is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who became one of the defining voices of modern melodic trap music. Raised primarily by his mother alongside four older brothers, he developed an early appreciation for Southern hip-hop through artists such as OutKast, Cam’ron, and Future. His career gained momentum after being introduced to Young Thug, who signed him to YSL Records in 2016.
Gunna first attracted attention with his "Drip Season" mixtape series, particularly "Drip Season 3" in 2018, which established his signature sound built around smooth flows, atmospheric production, and luxury-focused storytelling. That same year, his collaborative project "Drip Harder" with Lil Baby became a commercial breakthrough, fueled by the hit single "Drip Too Hard," one of the most successful rap records of its era.
His debut studio album, "Drip or Drown 2" in 2019, debuted in the upper tier of the Billboard 200, while "Wunna" in 2020 marked his first No. 1 album. He continued his chart dominance with "DS4Ever" in 2022, another Billboard 200 chart-topper that further cemented his status as a mainstream rap heavyweight. His later projects, "A Gift & a Curse" released in 2023 and "One of Wun" in 2024, showcased a more introspective side, reflecting personal and professional challenges while maintaining the polished melodic style that defines his music.
Outside music, Gunna has become recognized for his influence on contemporary fashion, luxury streetwear culture, and the popularization of the term "drip" within mainstream hip-hop. His career has also been shaped by the highly publicized YSL RICO case, after which he returned with commercially successful releases that demonstrated both resilience and continued relevance in modern rap.
