DJ Goggi, born Lindile Pinana in Dimbaza in the Eastern Cape, was a South African DJ and music producer whose career developed through live club performance culture in the late 1990s and 2000s. His work was rooted in DJ-driven nightlife spaces, where recognition was built through sets, events, and local reputation rather than formal commercial recording.
He became active in Cape Town’s club circuit, performing in venues such as McSweeney’s and other nightlife spaces that defined the era’s urban music culture. His role reflected the standard DJ structure of the time: reading crowds, shaping energy on the dancefloor, and maintaining consistent presence within social entertainment environments.
Alongside his career, he built a family life. He married in 2002 and became a father in 2003 to his son, Maki Pinana. He lived between Cape Town areas such as Claremont and Kenilworth before later moving between Johannesburg and Pretoria during the course of his life.
On 12 September 2016, DJ Goggi was killed in Roslyn, Pretoria, following a mob justice incident after being wrongly accused of involvement in a robbery. His brother Terry was severely injured while attempting to intervene during the attack. Goggi died shortly after from his injuries.
His legacy sits within South Africa’s informal DJ and club circuit culture, representing a generation of DJs whose influence lived in nightlife spaces rather than recorded archives.
